A box with drawer is a type of box that features a sliding compartment (the drawer) within a rigid outer casing (sleeve). The drawer is designed to pull out smoothly, providing easy access to its contents without requiring the removal of the sleeve.
A box with fitted lid is a box consisting of a tray and a separate lid that snugly fits in the tray. The fitted lid ensures protection for the contents and adds a clean, professional look to the box
A box with magnetic closure is a type of box designed with embedded magnets in its lid and tray to keep the box securely closed. The magnets create a seamless and easy-to-use fastening mechanism, eliminating the need for clasps, buttons, or other closure systems. The magnetic closure ensures that the box stays closed until intentionally opened, offering both practicality and a sophisticated aesthetic
A box with hinged lid is a type of box where the lid is permanently attached to the tray by a hinge mechanism, allowing the lid to open and close without being fully detached. They provide convenience by keeping the lid connected, while also offering a durable and often elegant solution for protecting or presenting the contents
A clamshell box - also called solander box - is a protective, hinged container typically used for storing and preserving books, documents, or other delicate items. It consists of two rigid panels connected by a spine, resembling the shell of a clam when closed. The box opens flat, providing easy access to the contents while offering excellent protection against dust, light, and physical damage when closed
Meet Sabrine
French Cartonnage is the art of box making with its origins in the 18th Century. Since 2003 I have been reinventing the artisanal savoir-faire of French Cartonnage in respect of the traditional techniques inherited from the master makers of the 18th Century.
I started HOUSE OF CARTONNAGE in 2003, driven by a desire to create, though it took me a while to discover the right path. My journey began when I attended a box-making workshop, learning the art of French Cartonnage.
Since then, I’ve been crafting boxes and cartonnage designs by hand, following traditional French techniques.
Join my online courses to learn the art of French Cartonnage and create exquisite KEEPSAKE BOXES. Whether you're a beginner or refining your skills, I'll guide you step by step to bring your creative vision to life.
Sabrine's course is fantastic! I was hesitant to invest the money into something I felt I could figure out on my own but I'm glad I made the purchase. Her instructions are detailed and the video is soothing to watch. I've made several of the hinged boxes and they turn out beautiful due to her course. I will definately purchase additional courses in the future.

When it comes to box making, using the right materials and tools is essential for achieving both speed and precision in your crafting. Essential materials include greyboard, fabric (linen, velvet, or paper), glue, and decorative elements like ribbons. To craft efficiently and effectively, having the right tools—such as a sharp craft knife, ruler, teflon folder, and corner cutters—can help streamline the process and enhance the quality of your work. With the proper setup, you can create professional-looking, functional boxes with ease, whether you're working on custom commissions or personal projects.
